If I Knew Then What I Know Now – Part 8

This morning I realized the depths of two becoming one, and I don’t mean at the altar. I discovered one thing that Jesus walking on the earth as a man never experienced.

A teaching to a group of men regarding the depths of intimacy between a man and a woman was shared with me. These men were being encouraged to realize what two becoming one means for a woman. The sharing of this teaching opened my eyes to the incredible gift of “the giving of ourselves.”

Oftentimes, women are accused of using intimacy as a weapon, withholding it from their spouse. I think if we knew the depths of the gift of a woman giving herself to her spouse (two becoming one), and the intent of the One who gave it, we would cherish it.

We ladies need to keep in mind we are just a bunch of ignorant human beings trying to navigate this crazy world which we were not intended to live in, thus giving our spouses grace. Our spouses need to realize the beauty of this gift created by God, to allow couples to experience a oneness that is the closest to experiencing the oneness with Jesus (that comes from being born again) that exists on earth.  Keeping in mind that Jesus is perfect; our spouses are not.

Children are a gift from God. Gifts from God can be used for good or evil by the enemy. We should love our children unconditionally, but not above our spouses. We need to be intentional about the wiles of the evil one to use children as a vice between husband and wife. Again, our children (just like us) are a bunch of ignorant human beings attempting to navigate this crazy world we were not created to live in. They too need grace, just like our spouses.

I would advise anyone seeking a spouse to find a spouse who is first loyal to Jesus and second loyal to you. A tell of loyalty to Jesus is the regard they have for His Ways as defined by His Word.  If they cherish His Word, they most likely will cherish you.  Again, keep in mind that we are incapable of cherishing His Word apart from the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. “I am the vine, ye are the branches. He that abideth in Me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without Me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:5 KJV)

Exercises:

  1. Individually ask God to show you if you are honoring your children above your spouse in any area of your life. Are you seeking closeness with them but disregarding your spouse? Are you competing with your spouse for your children’s affections?
  2. Individually ask God if you are mistreating your children and the Holy Spirit is trying to speak to you through your spouse.
  3. Individually ask God if you are condoning sin in your children’s lives in an attempt to be their friend and gain their affections.
  4. Individually ask God if you are being a sin sniffer in your children’s life, making it impossible for them to experience God’s amazing grace, disregarding that they are sinners saved by His amazing grace.
  5. Prayerfully ask yourselves as a couple if you are exalting your beautiful gifts from God, above God in any area of your life.  Are you “protecting” your children from the hand of their loving Heavenly Father, blocking them from realizing the purpose for which they were created.
