If I Knew Then What I Know Now – Part 3

I had the privilege of hosting a group of harpists this past weekend. They were all lovely ladies,
but one in particular caught my eye. She was so beautiful, so gentle and so elegant. When she
and her daughter first arrived, I was kind of taken aback to see her daughter bringing oxygen
tanks into the house. Initially, I wasn’t sure who they were for. Neither she nor her daughter
looked as if they needed oxygen.

On the last day after everyone had gone (but she and her daughter) I was able to talk with her.
She was delightful. I just looked at her in awe. Her skin was very supple. Her eyes were radiant.
Her hair was soft gray with lovely tints of lavender. When she told me she was 78 years old, I
couldn’t believe it. There was no evidence on the outside of what was going on physically,
inside.

Right before leaving her daughter jokingly said to my husband, “nice to meet the man behind
the woman.” This lovely lady winked at me and said, “side by side”. Of all the words spoken
during the weekend, this was the most profound.

What wisdom, walking side by side, hand in hand with our spouse. Amos 3:3 (NIV) says, “how
can two walk together unless they agree to do so?” We can continue holding hands even when
we don’t agree on an issue, it’s not about right or wrong. It’s about winning one another’s
affections. We are individuals uniquely created by God. We aren’t always going to think alike or
agree on issues, but we can purpose to hold one another’s hands and invite God to guide us.
